My Story

My passion is to teach piano, clarinet and saxophone to all ages and levels.  I am proud that many of my students have sat practical and theory exams with high achievement.  I love playing, performing and teaching.

Many of my students enjoy playing with others, sitting exams, performing and attending my choir camps, orchestra camps and theory workshops.  These workshops are very popular and set the students up to attain excellent marks in their exams.

As well as being the music teacher at a local school where I deliver classroom music to students from Y0-Y8,  I direct the school's choir and orchestra.  I am also the specialist music teacher at college level Y7-Y13.   Information overload from NCEA is my current professional development.

I also enjoy tutoring for the Wairarapa Ukulele Club which is for members of all ages.

In 2014 I received a Civic Award from the Masterton District Council in recognition of outstanding service to the community in Education, Arts and Culture, Social and Community.

I am a past member of the MENZA Board.   This Board is responsible for creating opportunities for the education of our musicians in New Zealand.  Being a member of this Board inspired me to run vocal workshops for our young rangitahi and our rangitira who wished to be take part in national kapa haka competitions.

I have two new past times that I enjoy.   One is composing and the other is blogging.  I have enjoyed exploring the new skills that these past times encourage.

Pam’s Music came about because many of my students’ parents started calling me Pam’s Music – the one stop shop for learning a variety instruments.  I must admit that some days I feel like a one armed paper hanger when I am on my way to teach at different destinations.  Teaching such a variety of instruments and genres keeps me on my toes.  There is nothing more rewarding than the face smiling at you, knowing that they have just fallen in love with their new assignment.
