Today I felt blessed that I was able to talk to my sister and tell her about the waiata I have written especially for her. I am really proud of it now that it is finished and I am hoping that it will be recorded for her to hear before she departs. The process helped me to realise why those rules as avoiding consecutive 5ths and octaves, avoiding parallel voicing etc. are drilled when learning composition. Simply put, it doesn't sound at all nice.
I have started many students and this weekend I am going to try online teaching. I will be so excited if I can get this to work.
I tried sound be symbol this week when teaching and I really think it will be a great way to teach. Especially the younger ones, they don't have to think about reading notes and where the notes are. They feel successful straight away.
